I could SEE the pursuit with that track, feel the pounding of my heart match the music as I envisioned Karl Urban pulling on the iconic gear and pulling out his Lawmaker. Fan of the comics, of the books, not a fan of the Stallone movie (he broke the cardinal rule of Dredd just because his face was too valuable to him, pfft) but didn’t even know the movie existed until Netflix.īut having watched it as many times as I have, I was sitting here listening to the track you linked to, and I felt an electric charge go through me, the same zeal that I have for the movie in its current form. I'd love to read the Wired article linked here, but I'm not handing out my email address willy-nilly, no sir! Hell, I'm amazed that a reboot was greenlit considering the ignoble reputation of the first attempt. While I would LOVE to see another film, especially one that goes completely crazy with the four Dark Judges, it's extremely unlikely because the studios will rightly assume that there isn't enough recognition and therefore ticket sales to justify the financial risk.
Karl Urban nails the character, and the balance of intense action, dark humor and socio-political commentary is perfect. I fucking LOVED "Dredd" and I feel it's one of the great diamonds in the rough for post-apocalyptic sci-fi action. They weren't well known in the states even when they were currently coming out, and the Stallone film buried any goodwill or anticipation that US audiences would have had for a better sequel because again, they weren't familiar with the source material.
