I made planes, I continued the naval dominance with steamships and U-boats, and I was waiting for ANYONE to join me in the Industrial age before I moved up to the Contemporary times. Only soon after I ascended to the Industrial age, only 2 of the 9 AI decided to move up to the Early Modern era. Perhaps, this was a symptom of the real problem, but my patience was really growing thin. Now the problem began to show itself - even if they had all the stars needed, THEY WOULD. After the first few wars back in Classical-Medieval times, everyone was subservient because of the military might still left with me, and I started dominating the seas, warding off their attempts at naval transport and colonization. I quickly secured the new continent and booted out the aggressive neighbors who were still stuck in the Medieval and Classical eras. But then it quickly fell flat, once I entered the Early Modern times, and that was because the AI was not intending to go forward.įor the majority of my time spent in the Early Modern period, I was looking for a challenger.

It was a blast in the beginning, going to war against an overly buffed AI, but winning with some positioning and rented armies, establishing diplomacy and trade for those sweet, sweet bonuses. Now, with some knowledge, after the recent Vitruvian update, stacking luxury benefits, and focusing on industry early on, and then on influence, I was the first to enter every era starting from the Medieval. I've tried picking up the game only once before, closer to launch, but only got a grasp of how it plays up until the Medieval era. I've invested a fair share of my time into EL and ES2, and have played a few games of Civ 5 and 6, but Humankind is not only beautiful, but it's also so much fun to explore and plan my way around other players, build garrisons and districts in key places to connect the cities and anticipate attacks in chokepoints, establish lines of production, plan train stations to set up quick army supply to the front, etc., I've been on a binge for almost the entirety of the last three days. So, I've just finished my first attempt at a game of Humankind on the Humankind difficulty, and it was great - for the most part.
